Description
SCMS-compatible DAT deck equipped with a latest-generation pulse-type D/A converter and numerous advanced functions.
Equipped with SCMS (Serial Copy Management System), it allows digital-to-digital recording from a CD player (limited to one generation).
An SCMS-compatible DAT deck can digitally record from a CD as the master source, but it cannot create a second digital copy from an already digitally recorded tape. A tape recorded via analog input allows one digital generation copy, but not a second digital generation.
In the case of satellite broadcasting, it is also possible to produce second-generation digital tapes from digital audio sources. In all cases, recording can always be repeated using analog input/output connections.
Mechanical System
Features a 2D mechanism with dedicated motors:
Direct-drive capstan motor
Direct-drive head drum motor
Dedicated reel motors
Uses a vertical transparent cassette compartment.
A/D and D/A Conversion
The A/D converter is a 1-bit type, capable of shifting unwanted noise generated during A/D conversion far beyond the audible band. This allows the use of a gentler low-pass filter, minimizing phase distortion and group delay degradation.
The D/A converter is also a 1-bit pulse type.
It uses a single electronic switch to turn a current source on/off at high speed (approx. 500,000 times per second), representing musical signals as dense pulse waveforms. In principle:
No crossover distortion
No differential non-linearity distortion
Natural, high-quality sound reproduction
Servo and Signal Processing
Uses a software-based servo system, meaning motor control is handled by software. This enables:
Smooth progressive search
Speeds up to approximately 200×
Reduced tape wear
Improved cue/review sound quality
Incorporates a second-generation LSI integrating:
Error correction
RAM control
Digital I/O
Integration density: 20,000 gates per LSI.
The microcontroller for servo and mechanism control is also integrated into a single LSI, reducing components and improving reliability.
DAT Subcode Functions
Advanced DAT-exclusive subcode features include:
Start ID
Auto mode (automatic writing at track start)
Manual mode
Erase capability
Skip ID
Automatically skips marked sections during playback
End ID
Marks logical end of tape
Includes a rehearsal mode for writing Start/Skip/End IDs during playback, with fine adjustment in 0.3-second increments.
Additional functions:
Program number assignment
Direct selection via numeric keypad
Automatic renumbering
Program shift function
Absolute time recording
Built-in clock for automatic date/time subcode recording
Playback and Search Functions
AMS playback (skip to previous/next track)
Direct program number search
Music scan (approx. 8 seconds per track)
Single track or full tape repeat
End search (locates final ID or unrecorded section)
The included remote control allows programming up to 99 tracks in any desired order.
Extended Recording and Editing
LP mode enables continuous recording up to 4 hours (using DT-120 tape).
Fade-in/fade-out is available for analog recording input and digital/line output playback.
Fade time adjustable from 0.2 seconds to 15 seconds.
Useful for editing and master transfers.
Connectivity
Coaxial digital input/output
Optical digital input (switchable from front panel)
Digital signal normalizing servo-type circuit on optical input
Digital peak margin display in dB
Includes FS Map function, visually indicating sampling frequency:
Upper meter illuminated: 32 kHz
Lower meter illuminated: 48 kHz
Both illuminated: 44.1 kHz
Remote Control
Supplied with a wireless remote control capable of:
Operating most deck functions
Controlling compatible CD players
CD-synchronized recording
Variations
Available in two finishes:
Gold
Black
The remote control color matched each finish version.
